The Bladder Meridian

The Yang Guiding Path of the Water Element

The bladder meridian together with the Kidney meridian the Water element. This is assigned to the winter, the color dark blue or black and the advanced age of man. Everything remains in silence and waits for the new beginning.

It is the time when nature and energy has completely withdrawn inside for regeneration. The bladder has the task of excreting old fluids in the form of urine and thereby strengthen the kidneys.

Wolfgang's Pro Tip

Combine the two movement systems Meridian Yoga and Qi Gong and increase their effect. In the morning, when the body is still a bit stiff, you can start the day with 15 minutes of Qi Gong and get the energy you need. In the evening, you can let go of the day with 15 minutes of meridian yoga and regain your composure.

Qi Gong for balance of bladder energy

Another very elegant and effective way to increase your personal energy comes from TCM. Qi Gong is a millennia-old art of movement, which is one of the 5 pillars of the Chinese medicine forms. The exercises are easy to learn and here I show you my 2 favorite exercises for balancing bladder energy.

The bladder meridian originates at the inner corner of the eye and continues to the inner eyebrow, where the acupuncture point Bl 02 lies. Continue from there across the forehead to the scalp.

Here the meridian now runs 1.5 cun outside the midline over the head to the important acupuncture point Bl 10 at the transition head-neck.

Here the meridian divides into an inner and an outer branch, both of which run down the back.

The inner is 1.5 cun and the outer 3 cun off the midline. They both go down to the pelvis, with the inner branch running over the sacral holes of the sacrum, while the outer branch runs slightly outside the sacrum over the buttocks.

Both courses now continue over the rear thigh to the knee. There the two branches unite again in the acupuncture point Bl 40.

Continue down the midline of the calf muscle. The acupuncture point Bl 57 lies exactly in the middle of the gastrocnemius. From here it goes to the external ankle joint and the acupuncture point Bl 60which is located between the Achilles tendon and the medial malleolus.

Below the ankle is the acupuncture point Bl 62  from which the course now follows the outer edge of the foot to the outer nail fold angle of the little toe, where the acupuncture point Bl 67 is located.
