The condition for a reduction of storage fat is a long-term, balanced reduction of the energy supplied by food, compared to the energy consumption. There is no way around this fact!
Parallel to saving calories, a regular exercise program is also important, adapted to physical conditions, for example swimming, hiking or brisk walking at a chatting pace. And of course, Qi Gong is also perfectly suitable, as it boosts the metabolism in a very gentle way - through conscious and deep abdominal breathing.
A greater and sustainable weight loss takes time - after all, the excess weight did not develop overnight. Realistically, a fat loss of 0.5 to 1 kg per week is achievable.
Most fad diets are one-sided, are abandoned and lead to the yo-yo effect. In the long run, only a balanced, calorie-reduced, nutrient-optimized and at the same time satisfying wholefood diet works.
Dinner-cancelling 1-2x / week, facilitates weight loss in a gentle way. This does not mean eating nothing at all, but instead of the usual dinner, for example, herbal tea, diluted vegetable juice or clear vegetable broth is enjoyed.
Realize that you can change and move forward courageously.
Main cause of obesity:
From the TCM point of view, the cause of obesity is to be found in an energetic imbalance of spleen and stomach. The spleen qi is usually too weak and the stomach is overheated due to our eating habits and psychological problems.
From the aforementioned spleen qi weakness, dampness develops in the body over time. Since dampness slows down the metabolism, it subsequently leads to obesity. If you want to lose weight from an eastern point of view, you have to eliminate this excess of moisture. This can be done most effectively through diet. This process can be supported by taking suitable Western or Chinese herbs (I will link to these at the end of this blog).
Disharmony of the stomach qi (ravenous hunger) is caused by too much thinking and brooding. It can be said that mental stress has a negative effect on the mucous membranes of the stomach, which can lead to gastritis. This process is further intensified by too much protein, wine, coffee or hot spices.
Psychosomatic causes of obesity:
Too much thinking triggers qi stagnation, this impairs the extraction of nutrients in the stomach and the transport function of the spleen.
Indirectly, constant thinking and brooding about its situation leads to stagnation of wood qi. This leads to feelings of frustration and disappointment.
In general, emotional strain and stress have been found to be associated with obesity.
Humans naturally try to relax with certain foods. The sweet taste plays an important role. It has a relaxing and calming effect and dissolves the stagnation of Qi in the short term.
In turn, the side effect of the sweet taste is dampness and renewed slowing of absorption. This means that the patient gains weight, even if he eats little. Many then use sugar substitutes, but this does not solve the problem. The final picture of obesity is a condition called "Damp Heat" in TCM.
The following consequences may result:
- Diabetes
- Cardiovascular disease due to cholesterol
- Circulatory disorders
- Increased blood pressure
- Musculoskeletal disorders due to obesity
Treatment:
- Psychological level: The aim here is to dissolve psychological stresses as far as possible. The best way to do this is to talk to a therapist. In this way, you can identify blind spots in your own psychological landscape and dissolve them in a targeted manner.
- Exercise: However, this does not necessarily require a hardcore HIT workout with lots of sweat, but a gentle Qi Gong session or a brisk walk can already achieve a lot here, as numerous studies have shown.
- Dietary change: To lose weight, you need enough yang qi, that is, enough digestive power. We will discuss how to do this. It is of course possible to eat vegetarian, but then please use spices consistently!
How do you go about it?
- You should eat breakfast if possible, preferably warm.
- Bread should not be eaten every day. Avoid bread and jam for breakfast
- Avoid any dairy products except butter and cream
- Reduce anything very sweet, especially white sugar fruit juices, ice cream, chocolate, any sweets, cakes, etc.
- Soft drinks (soda)
- Light products make you fat
- For large sweet cravings, a few dried fruits are allowed in the beginning
- Glutamate is a fattening agent (Attention: is contained in almost every ready-made product!)
The following tips will help you:
- Any cereal helps to expel moisture
- Celery tuber detoxifies and drains out
- Black radish cools, moves and detoxifies
- Mushrooms dissipate moisture
- Fish as soup or steamed transforms moisture
- Cardamom leads out! (Tea: 1 capsule toast and brew over).
- Use ginger fresh
- Cardamom, coriander, turmeric, cumin remove all moisture.
- Fenugreek seeds instead of Maggi in the soup
- Caraway tea (1/4 tsp. to a large cup, boil for about 15 min.)
Optimal preparation methods:
- Cooked (savory or sweet) morning meal
- Roast cereals without fat, then cook them first
- Cooking citrus peel (from organic cultivation)
- Use turmeric
- eat bitter leaf salads (arugula, radicchio)
- fry less in fat, cook better in water
- Prepare pulses spicy with seaweed and ginger
- regularly use fresh and dried kitchen herbs
A simple plan to lose weight without yo-yo effect:
- In the morning: carbohydrate-rich breakfast . Whole grains are a source of energy for the whole day! See suggestions: hot morning meals sweet or savory protein breakfast is also possible, but then only egg and cooked vegetables.
- Lunchtime: Here you can eat anything, as long as it is from organic farming and meat is only in small quantities. The digestive power is strongest at midday and therefore one may enjoy here accordingly like an emperor or empress.
- In the evening: Do not eat carbohydrates! Save them for breakfast! The best time is before 19.00. Soups, compotes, cooked vegetables, a little meat are best. Ask yourself how little you can eat to avoid going to bed hungry. The less you eat in the evening, the better you will sleep.

Hello dear EBL team, especially Wolfgang, I came across your channel by chance (does it exist at all,.,)and since then a regular visitor of 30 minutes 5 elements Qi Gong. I have also regularly practiced and combined the Liver and Cardiovascular Qi Gong.(Thank Corona....)
Years ago I practiced Tai Chi and Qi Gong in Athens. Back in Germany, I found only one teacher who suited me, in rural areas the offer is just smaller). But now I am enthusiastically with you. Yesterday I watched the "live broadcast" with the fall course. Something struck me:
In the exercise "Connecting heaven and earth" there are small differences in the movement to the exercise in the 5 elements video, but what I noticed in particular, the breathing is exactly the opposite. In the 5 elements video I breathe in while pulling apart, whereas in the "live video" I breathe out. ???
As a COPD patient, I also sometimes find it difficult to hold longer breathing intervals and then take small intermediate breaths. Is that ok?
Do you also offer seminars (weekend or week-long courses) in which one can participate in real life?
Kind regards
Helga Grünhage
Cordial greetings
Hello Helga. Thank you for your comment and I am glad you found us. I can also imagine practicing Qi Gong in Athens. That must be simply wonderful. Now to your question. You are right the breathing is once exactly reversed in both videos. The reason is that both variations are possible. If you breathe in while stretching your arm upwards, you create more space in your chest. When you exhale while going up, you work more on your stability and prevent yourself from tilting into a hollow back. In addition, you then also imagine that with the exhalation the energy flows up to your hands and that this is strengthened by the exhalation. So you can go on your intuition and choose the variant that feels right for you at the moment. From my experience I know that this can suddenly change from one year to the next. You should even breathe in between in your case so that you don't become short of breath. Try to breathe in and out through your nose if possible. At the moment we don't offer face-to-face courses, but if that changes we will announce it. All the best Wolfgang
