Qi Gong exercises

explained

Watch the full moon

With this Qi Gong exercise you strengthen the Organ energies from Spleen and Stomach and thus your Digestion. The two organs form the earth element. This is especially important for our energy balance.

The Nutrition is, next to breathing, the most important "Postnatal energy source". A healthy earth element is a prerequisite for us to be and remain healthy and vital.

The exercise also ingeniously mobilizes the entire spine from the lumbar region to the neck. Thus, quite generally Back and neck problems be solved.

Exercise description

Starting position is the shoulder to hip width qigong stance. From here, the upper body is moved once to the left back and then to the right back.

With the inhale, turn to the back left and let your hands point to an imaginary full moon that is behind you. One arm is extended and the other approaches the side of the chest.

With an exhale, rotate your body back to the starting position, imagining that you are roaming over a still lake with your hands. Then inhale and rotate back to the right, keeping your feet firmly anchored to the floor.

With the next exhale, return to the starting position and repeat the movement several times on both sides.

Frequently asked questions

I can turn nowhere near as far as shown in the video?

This is not a problem at all. It simply shows that the spine has lost its mobility in one or more sections. Most often it affects the thoracic spine and neck area. In this case, do the exercise only as far as it goes easily. However, keep imagining in your mind's eye how you can perform the rotation effortlessly.

Can I do the exercise even with disc problems?

Do not do this exercise if you have been diagnosed with disc problems, as rotational movements in this case should only be done under control. Instead, do the "Connecting Heaven and Earth" exercise or one of the other Earth Element exercises.

Pro tip from Wolfgang

This exercise particularly aligns your spine. Through the rotation and the simultaneous straightening of the body, the small vertebral joints and also the rib-vertebral joints are mobilized. This has a positive effect especially on pain in the spine. But also the breathing is positively influenced by the mobilization of the rib joints.

Most common errors

The heels detach from the floor while turning.

The knees rotate too much and are thus unnecessarily stressed.

At the end of the spiral movement, the stretching upwards is missing.

The exercise is performed only during the full moon. It is also suitable on other signs of the moon 😉.

Training tips

If possible, exercise again and again in front of a mirror or with the Record smartphone and then study this video for errors.

Do the exercise also sometimes in between. Best before a meal to stimulate digestion.

Also, keep closing your eyes while you do the movement. This will help you to inner processes even more intensively.

Assistance

What can you do if the exercise is too difficult?

In this exercise, the rotation sometimes causes problems, but it is never too difficult. In this case, just rotate as far as your body will allow. Learning qigong also means learning to listen to your body. It tells you exactly what it likes and dislikes and where its limits are.

You, however, have the task to show him through continuous practice that these limits can be extended. And never believe your mind, what is possible!
