Qi Gong for the immune system

Qi Gong Online Course

From the perspective of TCM, the lungs are largely responsible for a strong defensive energy. This is called Wei-Qi. By strengthening the lung energy through Qi Gong, you improve your immune system sustainably.

From the point of view of TCM to strengthen the immune system, the organ functions of the kidney, spleen and lungs must be strengthened. The kidney represents the basic energy of the body. The spleen is responsible for obtaining energy from food and thus also has a significant influence on our energy level. The energy of the Spleen and Lungs together make up the Qi that circulates through the body in the meridians. Finally, the lungs absorb the breath qi. We would say the lungs take in oxygen, which is then transported to the cells via the blood. Basically, it can be said that qigong improves lung capacity to a great extent and this benefits the entire organism.

The 2 Most Common TCM Patterns of a Weak Immune System

There are 2 common energetic patterns that, from observation, can lead to a weak immune system. Depending on what the problem is, you can work with individually adapted herbs.

1.) Qi weakness

With this energy pattern, the previously mentioned organs kidney, spleen and lung must be strengthened. If these work optimally again, the defense energy is improved.

Typical Symptoms for this pattern are:
Fatigue and exhaustion, especially after an effort.

When the TCM physician feels the pulse, he finds a weak one at the respective pulse palpation point. If he also looks at the tongue to get a holistic picture, he will find a pale tongue.

One of the most famous TCM herbal mixturesthat helps here is:
Yu Peng Feng San (Jade Windbreak Powder)

Matching Acupuncture Points would be: St 36, Sp 06, Ki 03, Kg 17 and Kg 04-06.

2) Yang deficiency

An amplified version of the above qi deficiency is yang deficiency. If a Qi deficiency exists long enough, it can develop into a Yang deficiency. This then poses a greater problem for the body, because now the heat function is also affected.

Here it is necessary to warm up the body again, and in this case especially the kidneys.

The typical symptoms of a Yang deficiency are also exhaustion, but with additional sensitivity to cold. This can be more or less severe, depending on the intensity of the lack of Yang.

The pulse feels deep and slow and the tongue is not only pale, but still wet.

In this case, it is best to work with warming spices such as ginger, cinnamon and cloves to strengthen the yang.

The acupuncture points that strengthen Yang are the same as those used for Qi weakness. Here, however, one could additionally heat the points with moxa. Moxa is a special method of TCM in which a burning "mugwort cigar" is burned over the points. This generates heat, which can penetrate the body through the meridians and thus strengthens the organ function.

In general, Qi Gong is an optimal therapeutic tool to strengthen the immune system. The program shown in the video is a short Qi Gong program that you can start with.
