Strengthen defenses with the 5 elements

Did you know, that our intestinal bacteria are actually forming our immune cells?
We have no less than 2 kg of intestinal bacteria in us, all of which are foreign to the body. But our immune cells leave them alone, because we need them. Not only to further process the food.

Our intestinal bacteria train our defenses! Before an immune cell is allowed into the blood, it must recognize exactly who is friend or foe, and if it makes just one mistake, it will never be part of the defense force. In intestine it learns who can be tolerated and who must be destroyed.
Therefore, to boost your defenses, you need a healthy gut!

Make sure you eat a balanced diet rich in fiber. Our fast-paced times, in which we no longer cook for ourselves so often, are a great challenge for our intestinal flora. Industrially produced and modified foods with chemical additives are particularly harmful. Equally unfavorable are hastily consumed bread snacks and fast food, sugar and convenience products.

  • Therefore, eat fresh food, preferably seasonal, regional and organic. The motto should be: Prepare it yourself and know what's in it.
  • Special foods such as lactic ferments are also very good for the intestinal flora.
  • And instead of sugared drinks like Coke and Sprite, your intestines will be happy about hot water.
  • In addition, regular exercise helps digestion
  • and of course relaxation and rest play an important role.

 

Influences that weaken our immune system

  • If you need antibiotics or have diarrhea, your gut bacteria will be radically decimated. Then you can also buy good bacteria in dried form for the repopulation of the intestine. (Take probiotic and prebiotic together).
  • Cortisone and other anti-inflammatory drugs make our immune system less combative.
  • It is also clear that stress contributes to the immune system losing strength, and in the process, inflammation in the body.
    Doctors refer to this as secondary chronic inflammation, and a weakened immune system can hardly prevent the development of chronic inflammation.

What foods increase the defense?
Spicy foods and drinks strengthen the defense, mental clarity and they lift the mood. Because they lead our life fire upwards to the heart, to the brain and outwards to the body surface, where it repels penetrating wetness and cold. At the same time they have a libido-strengthening effect, I do not want to deprive you of that!

  • Eat root vegetables like carrots and parsnips
  • Cabbage and squash, leeks, onions, brown rice, radishes, cabbage, kohlrabi and legumes
  • long boiled meat soups of beef and chicken
  • Vegetable soups with ginger
  • Game dishes, burgundy roast with red cabbage and chestnuts
  • Vegetable dishes from the oven
  • Stews of all kinds, always also the vegetarian version with beans and co.
  • For dessert, we recommend baked apples and compotes cooked with cloves and cinnamon bark and refined with nuts.

This protects against coughs, colds and hoarseness.

  • Don't season excessively spicy, though, especially if you suffer from heat exhaustion and high blood pressure.
  • Legumes (beans, lentils, peas) are high-quality sources of protein, especially in combination with cereals.
  • When you prepare beans or meat soups, cook a piece of seaweed with them. Seaweed is highly recommended because of its high mineral content and helps to balance the acid-base balance. They also have a cleansing and detoxifying effect.
  • In winter, avoid cold foods such as citrus fruits, bananas, yogurt, curd, milk, tomatoes and cucumbers.
    The strong cooling effect of citrus fruits reduces the immune system and you become more susceptible to colds and may even become overweight. If you eat bananas and yogurt in winter, the logical consequence is a chronic snotty nose.

Remind you of grandmother's kitchen!
Prepared from local food of the best quality, cooked with love works wonders and makes you happy! But use less and healthy fat and also less animal protein sources. But remember soups, stews and roast venison with red cabbage and cranberry pears.

Eat more hearty in winter, but lighter and more refreshing in spring and summer.
