Dojo time - the art of transition

You are between two phases. Undecided...

Do you know the feeling when you sense that something is changing, but you're not ready to let go yet? You're between two phases. Undecided. Maybe a little heavy. The old is still there. The new is not yet within reach.

But what if this time was not uncertainty, but an invitation to inner preparation?

🌾 Dojo time - the art of transition

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), there is a special phase that accompanies the transition between the seasons - the Dojo period.

It belongs to the earth element, which in TCM stands for stability, trust and the ability to adapt. Now, in January, we are slowly moving from the calm winter (water element) into the dynamic spring (wood element). A time of change in which your body and mind need gentle support.

TCM regards the dojo period as a phase of transformation. It lasts 18 days and gently prepares the body and mind for the next stage of the year.

✨ How you can use this phase to your advantage:

1️⃣ Find support in your center.
The earth element stands for your inner stability.

- Stand with your feet hip-width apart, place your hands on your stomach and breathe in deeply.
- Feel how you find stability and ground your body with every breath.
- Gentle movements such as Qi Gong or mindful walking help you to stay centered.

2️⃣ Choose warming and nourishing food.
The earth element loves soft, sweet and cooked foods that strengthen your digestive system and nourish your center.

- Recommended foods: sweet potatoes, carrots, pumpkin, dates, figs, chestnuts.
- Warming spices: Ginger, cinnamon, fennel, aniseed, cardamom - they gently balance your digestive fire.
❌ Avoid cold, raw food so as not to weaken your core.

3️⃣ Create space for reflection.
This time invites you to pause and gain clarity. Ask yourself:

- What do I want to let go of?
- What can stay?
- What do I want for the coming period?
✍️ Write down your thoughts and allow yourself to look gently ahead.
